Can I set the comments section so it can still be viewed
-
I would like to turn off commenting on selected posts but still have the existing comments viewable by viewers. Is this possible? It appears that whenever I turn off commenting the comments can no longer be seen by viewers.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can set things so that posts after a certain time frame have comments disabled, but as far as I remember, when you do that, the comments still show on the post, but new comments cannot be made.
Look at settings > discussion under “Other Comment Settings”. I don’t know if this will do what you want or not.

That’s what I tried but the comments were no longer viewable on the post after I did that. That is why I am asking if there is a way around that issue. -
Hmmm, I thought the comments would still show up, just make it so that new comments could not be added.
I’m afraid I have no solution then. Perhaps this is something staff need to consider changing. I think comments should show when that is selected.

Apparently that is theme-dependent. Some of the themes make old comments go Poof and some don’t.

Ah, I was wondering about that. It seemed that when I had tested one time, the comments stayed visible.

I tried disallowing comments twice this morning and got the same negative results. I tried it again after I posted the problem here and it worked as advertised. That post has had trouble properly nesting comments anyway so maybe the trouble was related to that. Anyway…thank you both very much.

This happens in very few themes, and Paperpunch is not one of them.
