Can I set up a default font for use throughout my blog?
-
Just starting up a WordPress blog for the first time. Notice that the default font appears to be Times Roman. Would like to make it Tahoma. Know I can do this in HTML (have some experience here), but hopefully there is a setting in the Dashboard I have missed that would set Tahoma as the default font (and default size)?
Also, what fonts are available for use – any you can normally get in HTML? Or a particular set?
Thanks

I’m afraid it isn’t possible to change your default font without the Custom Fonts upgrade. You can learn more information about this upgrade here.
Otherwise, you can use the <span> tag to modify the fonts that appear in your blog posts. In this case, there are no restrictions on the fonts that you can use, but the display will depend on your visitors’ browsers and operating systems.

Many thanks, evarlese. Will check out Custom Fonts but hoped for some simple automatic method in the Dashboard. Will use the <span> tag then.
Supplementary question – is it always Times Roman as default, or do different themes have different default fonts?

Good question :) Different themes have different default fonts. However, keep in mind that the font type that appears in your Visual editor may not match the default font on your site. To get an idea of how your content will appear on your blog, you can use the “Preview” button:

Thanks again everlase. –
Good point re Visual editor may not match site font – will keep in mind and test when necessary.
