  Yes, sure, you can set up your website and add all your contents for free. Later, if you want, you can upgrade to a paid plan but it’s not necessary to publish your content.

  Hi there!

  WordPress requires a host server to run, so to use it, even when building your site initially, you need a domain, provided by a host.

  You can set up your site in privacy mode first, then take it public when you’re ready to launch. A private site can only be viewed by approved users. You can check out the privacy settings here.

  WordPress.com also allows for domain mapping, which means at any point you can have a new web address load your WordPress website:
  https://support.wordpress.com/domains/

  It might be worth checking out WordPress.org if you’re a little more tech savvy, as it’s possible to set up a local server and create your website completely offline before launching. Check out the differences here.
