Can I shift my self hosted wordpress back to free wordpress?

Hello, I have a site on which I recently opted for self hosting. However, I would like to know if I can switch back to free wordpress once my 1-year contract with them is over? If yes, what are the steps that I would need to take and how much would it cost me?

Sure, we have some information about moving a self hosted site to WordPress.com here:

The domain can be mapped or transferred to WordPress.com whenever you are ready to make the switch.

It is possible to create a free site with an address containing “.wordpress.com” but custom domains are a feature of paid plans (Personal, Premium or Business).
