Can I show blog posts in an area on a static page? [Grisaille theme]

  I would like to have an area on my static home page [not in a sidebar Widget] where my latest blog posts are shown.

  Can a static page be “split up” this way?

  Can this be done by using CSS in the Custom Design option?

  Yes it can be done. Firs create a static page. but the thing you need can’t be done with CSS but with Shortcodes: http://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/ check this link. I did a similar thing with my blog and shortcodes http://crazygoblin.wordpress.com/crazy-goblin-magazine/
