Can I start a blog in WP.com and later on transfer to WP.org (self hosted)
-
Hi ppl,
I want to know if I can start a blog in WP.com and then transfer it with themes, tags, widgets etc. intact to WP.org with a self hosted domain and space? If I can, then do I download the WP.org software and export all the posts from my current WP.com blog? Will the domain indexing for each post work with my new domain?
Thanks,

Your content will export and import but you’d have to install a theme. The default widgets are different with the wordpress.org version so you might have to add some as plugin.
I’m sorry but I don’t know what you mean by domain indexing.

Yes, there are instructions in the FAQ. And the domain indexing will not work if you’ve linked in your posts to your WP.com blog; those links will still go to your WP.com blog UNLESS you buy the domain upgrade right from the start so your URL is Whatver.com or Whatever.org or Whatever.ca. Then when you move you can take the domain name with you and all your internal links will work.

Thanks, ellaella and raincoaster for your replies. I think I have got the answer and will check out the FAQ section as well.
