Can I start building a site and transfer the domain name to that site when completed?

    Yahoo is taking away site builder. So, I need to rebuild my site from scratch on wordpress and move my domain name over to the newly built site after it’s completed. I don’t want to overwrite to current site until the new one is completed and ready to launch. How do I go about doing that?
