Can I switch from wordpress.com to wordpress.org?

  I just bought the wordpress.com package, but just learned that I am unable to use plugins on my site. Can I switch to wordpress.org?

  We don’t allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org.

  However, we do have some really cool widgets. Perhaps one of those might meet your needs?

  This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance.

  As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community.

  Thank you for your reply. Again…I just bought it…I don’t need a guided transfer at a cost of $129. I have no material on my website. I have nothing on it. There is nothing to guide. Am I able to switch from .com to org, or will I have to sit on this domain for a year until it expires?

  You’ll need to install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ on a hosting provider. We have some recommendations at http://get.wp.com/hosting/

  Then, you can direct your domain to your hosting provider by changing your domain’s nameservers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

  Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

  To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
