  I have no idea how to start setting up the web site & the instructions are (very) confusing. I assume I have upgraded to Premium but have no confirmation of this. The intent is to set up a simple website with a blog, using my own photos as background.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  I think there is confusion because you have created TWO WordPress.com sites:
  jeromewmcfadden.wordpress.com
  and
  jeromemcfadden.wordpress.com

  The site jeromemcfadden.wordpress.com is the one with the Premium upgrade, as seen here:
  https://jeromemcfadden.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

  However, your site, jeromewmcfadden.wordpress.com, is the one you have added domain mapping.

  Since you haven’t added any content to jeromewmcfadden.wordpress.com, you may want to get rid of that site. Then, you can focus solely on jeromemcfadden.wordpress.com. You can add a custom domain name ( like jeromemcfadden.com) to that site, and get rolling with the building of your website.
