Can I test a free plugin with the WordPress Business?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I noticed that there are some compatibility issues between our plugin Hide My WP and WordPress.com Business and I want to fix them.

Can I get one week access to a demo website where I can install the plugin and see what changes I have to make to work well with WordPress.com Business plans?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hi @johndarrel1

Can I get one week access to a demo website where I can install the plugin and see what changes I have to make to work well with WordPress.com Business plans?

All our paid plans are refundable up to 30 days from the date of purchase.

I would like to tell you that there is some limitation for business plans.

    • We do not provide Database & FTP access to any user

    Hope this helps.

Let us know if you have any further questions. :)

    Hi,

Yes, I noticed that the users can’t login to the admin if they activate the plugin in Lite Mode on WordPress.com Business and I wanted to make sure it’s working properly.

All I needed was a couple of days to test the plugin and be able to make some changes to it.

I can’t pay $300 just to test a plugin. It has to be another way.

    Thanks,
    John

  • Hi John,

Just to clarify, it sounds like you’re a developer for that plugin?

The reason that plugin doesn’t work with WordPress.com Business, is because it changes the login page URL. All WordPress.com Business Plan sites have the Jetpack Secure Sign-on feature enabled by default, and plugins that change the URL of the login page breaks SSO, effectively locking a user out of WP-Admin.

    Jetpack

So to have that plugin be compatible with WordPress.com Business, it would have to be compatible with Jetpack’s SSO feature, and you should be able to use any standard WordPress installation with Jetpack to test this.

Also note that on WordPress.com Business sites it is not possible to edit any site files directly – when I tried to use that plugin on a test site to confirm this it directed me to add content to a .conf file in the Core folder. (The test site is hosted on Pressable where Core files also cannot be modified directly.)

    Hi,

Thank you for your detailed answer. Yes, I’m the dev for the Hide My WP plugin.

I will test the plugin with the Jetpack SSO and see how it goes.

Is there a function or a way to detect if it’s a WordPress.com website? I can notify the users about the conf file and prevent any lockouts.

    Best, John

  • Hi John,

Is there a function or a way to detect if it’s a WordPress.com website? I can notify the users about the conf file and prevent any lockouts.

Yes, you can check the site’s nameservers with a WHOIS tool (https://whois.icann.org/). WordPress.com nameservers are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
