Can I transfer my blog to my domain on Host Gator AND keep it on WordPress?
-
Eventually I want to use WordPress self hosted, but I’m really enjoying the ease of setup at WordPress.com (I know NOTHING), so I’m hoping that I can run my blog on both spots by transferring over what I have to my domain http://www.sfnativemom.com on Host Gator and still keep updating and running http://www.sfnativemom.wordpress.com. Is that possible? I just can’t wrap my head around starting from scratch self-hosted.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I should have put in my title that I’m talking about staying on WordPress.com AND having my own domain on Host Gator…

You can map sfnativemom.com to your blog here – that is mapping an existing domain name – $ 13.– / year
If you move your content onto Host Gator with a WordPress.ORG install blog then you are not here and need to get help at WordPress.ORG when you move

It’s technically doable, but it’s a bad idea for several reasons:
1) search engines will see the same content in two places and consider them both spam blogs, ruthlessly downgrading them.2) staff have said if your blog here is a duplicate of another externally hosted blog, it needs to be set as Private or it will be suspended.

Oh, so I have another question then, if I’m playing around with my wordpress.org site that is hosted on Host Gator and this wordpress.com site at the same time is that a problem? They both have different content.

Why would it be a problem then? They’re totally independent systems. Once you find one you prefer, you can transfer your other content into it and shut down the blog.

Great, now if someone can help me with this question:https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/oxygen-theme-problem-with-no-page-for-blog-and-pictures-for-entries?replies=1#post-1380265
I know..I’m hijacking my own post.
