Can I transfer the registration of domain name iawis.org to wordpress.com?

  XLserver in Netherlands is current registrar of domain name and website. We have asked them to take down old website and unlock domain name so that I can transfer it to wordpress. They are not responding to my emails, but may respond to queries from the IAWIS treasurer in Amsterdam.
  If I can’t transfer registration, then I will try to map domain to iawisblog.wordpress.com.
  But DNS servers need to be updated to allow that. I see conflicting info on wordpress.com site about allowibility of domain name transfers.
  Which is the better option?

  While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. We therefore recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar (or, if you are not happy with your current registrar, transfer the domain name to another registrar). You can use the domain for your site here at WordPress.com by mapping the domain, as explained here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
