Can I un-delete a blog?

Can I un-delete a blog? I didn’t realize that deleting it would make it unavailable for use ever again (which seems utterly silly to me — especially if I’m the one that created and deleted it!).

Once a blog is deleted, it is no longer available to use, and the name cannot be recycled.
If you wish to create a new blog, you will need to choose an address that has not been used before.

Yes I know that. That req’t makes no sense to me. Can you please explain the rationale behind it? Especially if I was the one who deleted it and realized it was a mistake? I’m not asking for the content back, just the option to be able to create it again!
The only reason I can invent is that you don’t want people to reuse other people’s deleted blogs in order to masquerade as them. But in this instance, I’m the creator! Why can’t I have the option to resurrect my own deleted blog?

I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but if you deleted a site, you will not be able to use that address again. When you delete a site, as part of the process we explain that the address cannot be used again. This is because each address is associated with a single blog in our database.

As a software engineer myself, I see no technical barrier that would prevent one from resurrecting a blog. I don’t get why this has to be so difficult. Why not just delete the entry in the database associated w/ the address? Surely system admins have the power to do so? If I give you a blog and account, can you verify that I was the creator of the blog and then recreate it?

There was a terrible problem earlier with some professional trolls (I mean paid by gamers) hijacking other peoples’ accounts and blogs. This is part of an anti-impersonation measure. It’s not a software issue.

I figured something like that would be the case. So I’d like to prove that I am who I say I am. Can I do that and recreate my blog please?

As I’ve explained, once a blog has been deleted, the action is permanent and the address cannot be recycled. You are welcome to start up a new blog with a new address at any time.
