Can I undo domain mapping?

  • Unknown's avatar

I originally set up my blog on WordPress.org, purchasing the domain housetohomediy.com and using HostGator to host. Coding was too much for me so I switched over to WordPress.com for now. Here I saw Domain Mapping where I could point housetohomediy.wordpress.com to housetohomediy.com. So I did that, and now it takes me to my ORIGINAL site on WordPress.ORG (which is housetohomediy.COM). That’s not what I want because that’s the one I can’t use since it requires coding. And now I can’t get to the site I had started on WP.com. Can I reverse the domain map and if I do, will I still be able to use AdWord? I’m completely messed up now and I think everything I try is making it worse. HELP!!

  • Hi Donna,

You can always access your WordPress.com site dashboard at https://housetohomediy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/ .

In the Store->Domains page, you can select your WordPress.com domain as your “primary”. A direct link: https://housetohomediy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

When you’re ready for your domain name to point to your WordPress.com site, you can follow the directions at Map an Existing Domain. Basically, you’ll just need to change a setting over where you purchased the domain originally.

As a head’s up, you’ll need to keep the domain registered where it is now, though you can end any hosting with Hostgator once you’re ready, if you like.

If you have any other questions or need anything else, please let me know. Cheers!
