Most of the pay pal discussion forums date back to 2006-2008. Just curious: Can I use a Pay Pal button on my blog?

Hello there,
You can have the PayPal donation button only. Instructions here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/ -

The merchants services buttons cannot be used because they are javascript which is a restricted code here that the wordpress.com software will strip out. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
Also wordpress.com only allows specific types of blogs and no wordpress.com blogs can be equipped with shopping cart setups, etc. for ecommerce. WordPress.com supports authors, artists, musicians, and artisans iie. creators. No reselling and no retailing is allowed.

hi timethief, so can we add html ad’s and affiliate links to the blog? We see other blogs doing it a lot but are unsure and thought it best to ask?
thanks

No, you can’t. If you do, your blog will be suspended or deleted. These instructions relate to the Paypal donate button. Reselling and blogger-initiated paid advertising are against the Terms of Service.

Also, familiarize yourself with the differences between wordpress.COM blogs and self-hosted wordpress.ORG blogs. On self-hosted blogs, you have virtually no restrictions other than those placed on you by the third-party web host. It could be that you were seeing ads and affiliate links on self-hosted blogs.
