Can I use a the free blog plan to sell original PDFs or for services such as adsense?
-
Hi! I have been blogging (when I can!) with WordPress for over a year, and honestly I couldn’t be happier!
My sister, who’s passion is sewing and DIY, wants me to help her create a lifestyle blog for young working women, especially new mothers. The articles, craft ideas, activities and recipes would be free for everyone to enjoy, but because she designs her own sewing patterns, (which is rewarding but time-consuming) she wants to sell the more complicated ones as PDFs (we were thinking a range of about $0.60—$0.99 per download), and perhaps employ a service such as AdSense. I’m excited to help her, but the only thing is that I’ve only ever blogged for pleasure, so I’m not quite sure where to start. Does WordPress allow this type of e-commerce and AdSense on their free blog plan? I could always try to use a different host service such as Blogger if I have to, but I would prefer to stick with WordPress if I can, as I’m already familiar with it–and quite frankly, your themes rock :)Thanks for any advice!

It’s my option that your best option is to hire a web host and set up a wordpress.ORG install.
I want you to read what follows very carefully.
No blogger initiated advertising is allowed on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains.

http://en.wordpress.com/apply-for-wordads/Please read http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/
1. WordPress.com allows bloggers to insert text affiliate links within post and page content to most third-party affiliate programs, provided they are not the primary content of the site in question.
2. Image affiliate links in posts and pages and any banners, affiliate links in sidebar or footer widget areas, are still considered to be advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com blogs.
Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed.

http://en.wordpress.com/tos/NOTE: A self-hosted WordPress site is what you need. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
This guide will explain how to move your WordPress.com site to another hosting platform: Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
(1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
(2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.Also, note that we do not provide Jetpack support https://jetpack.me/support/ for sites linked to wordpress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
For sites not hosted here, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
