Can I use a wordpress.com blog to establish a LinkedIn company page?

    I have created a functional blog for a nonprofit group. By our charter, we cannot have any funds, thus we cannot pay for a unique URL with a “GoDaddy” (for example). My next step is to create a ‘company page’ on LinkedIn. (http://eusantamaria.wordpress.com)

    My Big issue is that I need to establish a mail domain for the company.

    My immediate problem is that Linkedin requires:

    “Your company’s email domain is unique to the company. [Currently no email service
    exists for this chapter of this organization]
    Note: A domain cannot be used more than once to create a company page. Because
    domains like gmail.com or yahoo.com or similar generic email services are not unique to
    one company, those domains cannot be used to create a Company Page.”

    I tried to establish a ZOHO mail account. I was able to create the administrative mail address, but found that I need to authenticate my ownership by modifying the code on the page. However, we can’t (I don’t think…) do that on free WordPress.com accounts. Zoho requested that I do the following to establish ownership:
    “…The domain verification requires that you have access to manage the DNS records of
    the domain you have added. Please check with WordPress if it is possible to control the
    various settings like CNAME records, MX records, etc. for the domain…”

    Does anyone have any ideas? My skill levels for web creation are basic. I’m learning as I go. My end goal is to:
    1) create the blog (completed) (http://eusantamaria.wordpress.com)
    2) create the LinkedIn company page

    Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Is this a ‘chicken-and-the-egg’ scenario or am I not seeing how to connect the dots? Thank you in advance for your patience, guidance, and help.

    Hi there – To have email on a domain, you have to have a custom domain. It’s not possible to have email on a .wordpress.com URL because that is actually a subdomain of the domain WordPress.com.

    If you were to register a domain, you could set up email with Zoho Mail or a number of other third-party services, but if you’re not able to purchase a domain, then I don’t know what to advise. :(
