This will depend on the license that the image creator gives the image. A good standard rule is, if you can’t figure out what license the image has, don’t use it.
There are plenty of Stock Photo sites out there (some of which are free, some not) where you can get images to use without violating copyright.
-
Unless the site you got it from explicitly allows re-using the image, it’s a copyright breach, period: telling where you stole something from doesn’t make it less of a theft.

if i watch a movie and i pause it and take a photo , is this still in break of copyright laws?

Please note: I’m not a lawyer (and neither is anyone else that comments here, probably). Caveat Emptor
In any case, that’s a grey area. Screen grabs from a video CAN fall under “Fair Use,” for instance if you’re reviewing a movie. It’s still better to get explicit permission, though, as your definition of fair use and the copyright holder’s might differ.

That’s a trickier one, and I’m not qualified to answer it: it might or might not fall under fair use, depending on several factors.

yes – unless they grant you a license to use the image
Many movie companies have images that they license for the purpose of letting people do reviews and comments with – but you will need to check the licensing for the image – note also – many movie companies are real hard nosed about use of their images and such

thanks for the help. one more thing, if you get a video from say, youtube and it has an embed link, is this permission to use it in a blog or for strictly private reasons?
-
videos posted to youtube are generally up for grabs, as they are meant to be shared. An issue can arise when the person who posted the video posted copyrighted content illegally, but generally the copyright holder will go after the youtube user, rather than you, to have the video taken down. (Then your embed code will show that the video has been taken down).
