Can I use Google Analytics on a free WordPress.com site?
-
I previously worked at a digital marketing firm so I have experience setting these things up on sites with paid hosting plans. However, now that I’m out of work, I’m trying to maximize the amount I can do with the free plan for the basic site that contains my writing portfolio. I would like to track visitor sources as there are several places I’ll be linking my portfolio as I search for a new job. Google Analytics seems like the obvious solution (I was going to stick to using my free bit.ly account but it only allows 1 bit.ly link per long link which doesn’t help in this case) but I don’t know the best way to go about adding the tag.
In the past, I always had a developer add the Google Tag Manager code to the site so I could implement all subsequent codes on my own that way so that’s what I was hoping to do this time around, too. Is it possible to manually add this code (or even the direct Analytics code) to a free WordPress.com site? I know I can’t use any plugins like Monster Insights.
It’s not the end of the world if I can’t track visitor sources, but it would be nice. I’m assuming it’s probably not possible but I thought I’d ask. Thanks in advance!

Good evening, @ladiggs8gmailcom
You need the Premiun plan (or above) for that feature:
