Can I use Plugins?

    Hi there,

    I hope you can help.
I am new to WordPress (and very crap at it), and currently have a wordpress.com blog.

I already own an existing custom domain purchased from somewhere else. So I will end up transferring my site to my already existing domain name.

So firstly, I need to create an accommodation availability calendar – I understand that I can do this using a plugin? But I can’t use plugins in WordPress.com.

Can I use plugins if I have transferred my site to my own domain name – using the £13 per month plan?
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Or do I have to purchase the ‘Premium’ plan? (which costs about £70)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot use WordPress.com Plugins here, however, here is a list of WordPress Plugins in use on WordPress.com. We call them features. :D

You may pay for the domain mapping for an existing, registered domain as you found in the instructions. You do not need the full premium plan unless you wish for those additional features. You may just order the domain mapping.

As for an accommodation availability calendar, you can set up a Google Calendar with a schedule as a public calendar and embed it into a Page on your site easily. When you update the calendar on Google, it updates on your site. There is also a Google Maps widget for upcoming events you can place in the sidebar. All free.

    Hi Lorelle,

Thank you so much for your help, you have made everything a lot clearer!
I will try out the Google Calendar, it sounds like a god idea.
