13 minutes is not a long time to wait. 13 hours would be a long time.
What do you mean “wordpress software?
We also need a link to your blog.
-
I heard that We can use software provided by wordpress.org to manage our blog. But I am using ubuntu. Dont know how to start? From Synaptic package manager I installed the wordpress
msenthilkumar.wordpress.com is my blog link. -
The software is already installed here – that is what you are using at msenthilkumar.wordpress.com – except it is the multi-user version and has restrictions.
To use the software from wordpress.ORG, you have to buy your own domain name, hire a web host (godaddy, dreamhost, etc.), install and configure the wordpress.ORG software on that web host, and then transfer your blog contents from here to the new blog on the web host. Figure an average overall cost of from $10 to $25 per month – or more – depending on your storage and bandwidth requirements.
Installing wordpress.ORG software on your own computer at home does nothing for you really because you cannot run a web site off of a standard ISP account.
-
@thesacredpath Unless you use your computer to run your own web server, which I doubt they would do. And, I usually sigh at these topics just by reading the title.

The thing is, virtually no ISP will open up a residential address to be used for web hosting. The typical residential phone lines simply cannot handle it. And even if you are on Cable internet service, they too restrict residential addresses. The simply aren’t equipped to handle the traffic from individual residences.

Thanks for the reply. I just want to create my own theme for my wordpress blog. THat’s why I asked. Now I understand that I can not run that software for free blogs

We cannot add or upload themes at wordpress.COM, we are limited to the themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes.
http://support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/ You cannot create and upload themes here at wordpress.COM.
If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade, which will allow you to stylize the themes here, but it does not allow you to change the functionality. Since there is no official support for the CSS upgrade, you should really have experience with CSS before buying the upgrade. You can go to appearance > edit CSS and wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try out changes before you buy the upgrade.

The other thing to consider in building your own theme is that all themes used with wordpress are written in PHP script, not HTML, and although PHP script is very powerful, unless you know a good deal about it, you can inadvertently build in big security holes that hackers can use to cause you all kinds of grief.

All blogs at WordPress.com are using wordpress software, they’re just not using the same kind as the software you download at WordPress.org.
If you want to blog, you can go ahead and get started. If you want to design a theme, you need to be over at WordPress.org, but I counsel you to develop your skills more before even trying. It’s not a trivial job.
