Can individual posts be read by public on a private site?

  I have a private blog that I am using as a diary. I assumed that if the blog is private, no one can see any of the posts on it. I recently made a new post and when I looked at the stats, it said it had been read, referred by wordpress.com reader! Does this mean anyone could have read this post?

  Good morning!
  barbaralovric.wordpress.com is a public page. It looks like that is what you want. Could you please provide the url to the blog you are referring to so we could check for you?

  The link you provided at https://wordpress.com/stats/day/afewinterestingthings.wordpress.com can only be viewed by you and any user in a user role on your site (as defined here).

  The entire site afewinterestingthings.wordpress.com is a Private site and can only be read by you and any viewers or users you invite.

  On a Public facing site, such as barbaralovric.wordpress.com, Posts and Pages published as Private can only be read by site Admins and Editors.

  Hope that helps to clarify further.

  thanks Dave and Jennifer.
  I was concerned because my Stats said there was one visitor who saw the post but I assume that was me? Then when I looked at the individual post security, it said PUBLIC. I was concerned because I assumed ALL posts on a private site would be private.

  You’re welcome. When the site privacy is Private, your own visits count in stats. That’s correct.

  On a Private site, if you are the only one viewing it, then there wouldn’t be much point in making your posts Private as well. Could be the word “Public” might be misleading here.
