Can no loger copoy/paste into editor.
-
To start off with I should say I have a free blog on WordPress. I have not installed any programs.
When trying to make a post today I can no longer copy/paste into the Gutenberg editor. (I just pasted that) I have the same problem throughout my other browsers e.g. IE & Chrome.
It was working fine yesterday.
As I’ve searched the problem I have found multiple forums of people using the WordPress program who could no longer paste (and I can do it universally through many different formats) with the Gutenberg editor.
It seems to me this editor is more problematic than not. I would go back to the classic editor, but I cannot because it has been completely diabled in the free blogs, as far as I know.
That said, I have been blogging on WordPress for ten years and I have never had so much trouble as I have had with this editor, but like I said, it was working fine yesterday.
Can anyone help me? Or am I going to be forced to move to another blogging site?
Here is a link to one of my blogs: https://thevaleofsoulmaking.wordpress.com/
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Okay, I’ve been experimenting, and this is weird. Frankly, I don’t know what is going on. I can go to Google and copy & paste any of the results from my search into the editor. However, I an not past anything from Word or even a text document into the editor.
And here’s another thing, though I wouldn’t necessarily call this a work-around: if I edit as HTML I Can paste from a text doc into this, however I get the error message “this block contains unexpected or invalid content” when I attempt “block recovery” and I am really not sure which to choose, if I choose “resolve” and convert, I still get an error, if i choose convert to HTML it reverts to proper HTML coding, if I choose “classic” it reverts back to a visual edit but with a classic toolbar editor Within the editor itself, which I actually miss and with it was still at the top of writing space like the classic editor. It just doesn’t feel right when it’s inserted into the block.
At any rate, why can I paste something from, I guess, a webpage into the editor, but I cannot paste something from a simply text document?
Frankly, if I could, I would like to simply go back to the Classic editor all together. I have tried to work with this new editor but I do not feel is is very user-friendly, especially or at least for me. I’m visually handicapped and I don’t do well with change, particularly when I can’t literally speak to someone about the issue, these forums and chats are not meant for someone like me, and yet I cannot seem to explain that to anyone. Moreover, WordPress is not necessarily handicap assessible, and y et I’ve been able to make it work for me for 10 years, go figure.
Again, that is the best explanation I have. I can’t make heads or tails of this editor anymore or do I know if it’s the editor or a glith with the stie. I have the same problem with my other two WordPress blogs so it is not isolated to this one. And any help would be much appreciated, on all levels. I don’t really need such a fancy editor, I make simple text posts which, apparently, the Gutenberg editor had problems with.
Thank you

I might also add, though this doesn’t exactly pertain to my initial ticket, but it may be a sign of bugs because it just started happening this week.
When I schedule a post, and I open the window where I can set the date and the time, usually, immediately after I choose the date on the calender, the window closes.
Now it does not. It stays open indefinitely, or at least until I click somewhere in the header of the page, like alongside the title, will it close so I can see that I have actually selected the proper date & time to post.
that’s been going of for at least a week now, maybe longer. I never posted a ticket because I figured that it was a bug and someone would eventually fix it. I mean–it looks like a bug to me.
thank you.

Hello
You are right about copy/paste.
As of now, it seems the blocks are not on good terms with copy/paste.
For many of us using WP. com block editing it is not conveniant at all.
Even if publishing in English, this is not the native language for many of us.
Not being able to write drafts in Word / Wordpad /WPS or other text editors
is certainly a draw back. There are some text editors to find online.
I have tried out https://texteditor.co/ for a small text piece copy/paste as a test.
Actually that worked, but not sure about it over time.
It seems the block editor is not quite stable from day to day.
I am not in any way in a position to know why this is.
Maybe it’s because developers are working on it? -
Well thank you very much for replying. At least now i know it’s not just me. I feel they should at least give those of us who have the free blogs the option to revert back to the Classic editor.
That said, I am only now noticing that there is no longer a Writing tab in Settings. ???
Here is an editor that I have been using for quite some time now without any problem:
https://qhmit.com/html/online-html-editor/
I use it mostly because I would rather edit an entire document rather than individual blocks. Which, in my opinion, is a downfall of the Gutenberg editor. Or at least I haven’t found a way around it.
No matter, today I can’t even paste from a text document into the Gutenberg editor. I have had several quirky things going on with my WordPress over the past month.
Thank you for responding nonetheless.

@charlzcoakely,
It seems to me this editor is more problematic than not. I would go back to the classic editor, but I cannot because it has been completely diabled in the free blogs, as far as I know.
No, it hasn’t. WordPress.com has simply hidden links to it, and otherwise made it more difficult to use without being relentlessly hijacked back to Calypso and the Block Editor, or (even for those who’ve learned how to avoid such traps) unending attempts lure, trick, coerce, or force you into using them.
Frankly, if I could, I would like to simply go back to the Classic editor all together.
The Classic Editor is still available to all WordPress.com users, and it’s still free. Here’s the Classic Editor support page, and the recently revised How to Access the Classic Editor section of that support page.
Regarding the copy & paste and scheduling issues that you’ve described above, I’m going to leave those for others to respond to. Sorry, but trying to resolve them would require me to spend too much time in the Gutenbug editor, and life is too short.

Thank you. I will figure out work-around for the copy/paste, but if I can somehow get back to the Classic editor, I problably won’t have to.

I was able to get my dashboard back to normal. There had been some less than functional changes to it over the past month that I never got a reply from support for. That said, I don’t have a Classic editor in the Pages but I do have it in my Posts tab, which had been recklessly modified.
All this is good, but still cannot get the Classic editor when I make a new post.

Hi there, did you see the WordPress.com blog announcement about unified navigation? https://wordpress.com/blog/2021/03/30/wordpress-com-design-update-for-a-more-intuitive-experience/ If you are not yet subscribed to the WordPress.com Blog I highly recommend doing so.
In order to return to using the Classic Editor (for now) follow the links in @musicdoc1’s reply
The Classic Editor is still available to all WordPress.com users, and it’s still free. Here’s the Classic Editor support page, and the recently revised How to Access the Classic Editor section of that support page.
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor
Once you change and save the setting at https://wordpress.com/me/account to show wp-admin pages if available you should be able to access the Classic Editor again (for now) for both Posts and Pages.
However, Staff have advised time and again that eventually the Classic Editor will go away. So please take the opportunity and try out the block editor in a test post or page to get a feel for it. It’s easier to use than you might think.
The default block is the paragraph block, so place your cursor in the editing area and just start writing without selecting any block. If you need a new paragraph, click ENTER/RETURN like you’ve always done and in the background a new paragraph block will be added for you, so just keep writing. You don’t need to first add a Paragraph block and then continue writing.
All the text formatting tools you need (Bold, Italic, justification, links, text color, etc.) are available in the toolbar above the paragraph you are writing in. If that toolbar gets in your way, you can pin it to the top bar by clicking on the three dots at the top right and then clicking on “Top toolbar.”
WordPress.com published a guide on working with the Block Editor specifically for Writers and Bloggers that don’t want or need all the bells and whistles that the Block editor offers at: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/
And if you’d like to write in a more familiar environment, the Classic Block was made for you https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
Sorry this is so long, but do post back here and let us know if you need any further help.

Thank you for the tips. Yes, I probably should follow the WP blog and I will. Thank you also for the toobar tip. I believe I would rather use the Classic block by default, if that is possible. And thanks for all the other links as well.
