Can no longer copy/paste twitter links in visual editor

  • Unknown's avatar

I used to be able to imbed tweets by copy/pasting the link into the visual editor. Now I have to use the text editor – what changed?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

We have recently made a few changes to the site to bring in some updates which have been cooking. There have been a few bugs though and we’re working on fixing them.

Can I ask, which editor are you using? There’s one which you can get to by going to WordPress.com and then clicking on the pencil icon in the upper right hand corner; or there’s one which you get to by logging in to your Dashboard and then going to Posts >> Add new.

Also, just to verify, is this still a problem? And is it only tweets that you’re having issues copy/pasting or is it other text as well? Finally, is it just one browser or are other browsers giving you troubles as well?

    Let me know!

    re: editor used
I select ‘add new’ from the drop down on my blog page and/or go to Dashboard and select ‘add new’

    re: twitter links
Yes, this is still a problem for me with twitter links. Basically, I copy the link and then when I try to paste it into the visual editor, it deletes the line I was on and doesn’t paste. But, if I paste it in the text editor – works fine.

    re: other issues
I have also had sporadic problems with pasting other links (using ‘add media’, ‘insert URL’) but, at the moment that is OK.
NOTE: I don’t have any issues with just pasting text or using ‘add media’ to insert photos.

    re: browsers
    I only use google chrome

Thanks for any direction / help you can provide.

    Hey Lisa,

Thank you for the additional details. I’m having trouble reproducing this. When I insert a Twitter URL, the link doesn’t override the text. I’ve created a screencast to demonstrate what I’m experiencing here:

Can you try one more thing? Can you try using another browser (like Firefox)? I’d like to see if this is localized to your Chrome browser or if this issue exists across all browsers.

I really appreciate your help troubleshooting this!

    Clarification:
When I paste the twitter link it doesn’t overwrite text . . .
I paste it on a blank line (with space in between the previous line) and the cursor moves up previous line but nothing pastes

I tried in Firefox and got the same result.

    thanks!

    Hi!

I’m still working on reproducing this, but I’ve been unsuccessful so far. I have a few additional questions for you so I can get to the bottom of this issue and get it fixed!

    1. When you’re posting to your blog, the URL in your address bar while you’re creating a new post should look like one of the following:

      http://example.wordpress.com/wp-admin/….

      or

      http://wordpress.com/post

Can you let me know which one?

    2. When you’re pasting the Twitter URL, can you confirm that you are indeed in the Visual Editor?
    3. After you paste the Twitter link, can you try clicking over to the Text Editor? Can you let me know if the Twitter URL is showing there?
    4. Could you let me know the name of the post where you’re having trouble so I can take a look?

Not sure what changed but, I’ve been able to post twitter links again for a few days!

to answer your questions (in case it happens again) . . .
    1. https://compassrosy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
    2. yes – visual editor
    3. after attempting to post the link in the visual editor, it does NOT show in the text editor (the reverse, however – posting in text editor shows in visual editor and actually posts the link)
    4. it was all my posts for the last 6 weeks or so

    thanks!

Wonderful! I’m glad this is working again. Please let me know if it acts back up for some reason!

Hi again ~One thing I have noticed is that there is a “white block background” behind the imbedded twitter posts . . .
It used to be a nice clean image of the twitter post (I looked way back at some old ones and now they all appear that way)
Any ideas on what changed or how I can fix it?

    thanks,
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa!

It looks like this is caused by some styling within the theme. I’ve reported it to our theme developers. I’ll get back to you as soon as I know more!

Howdy! Thanks much for bringing this to our attention; we’ve made a quick change to Sundance and it should now display Twitter embeds without the white background. I hope this helps. :)

    Cheers,
    Caroline
