Can non WP users leave comments on my posts?

    Hi everyone!

Can non WP users leave comments on my posts? A friend just now told me that he reads my blog occasionally but can’t leave comments. I used the search term ‘non WordPress users’ but nothing relevant was returned. Thanks in advance.

To be sure, I’ve never had a problem with this before. Now, I did find some related discussion when clicking around here, although I’m having a hard time digesting it all. I’ll just examine it closely. I’ve got my dashboard open in one tab and the discussion open in another…

I’ve always used the moderation feature and only a couple of times didn’t accept a comment. So I don’t know what my friend’s issue is. I probably should be querying him for more details.

I really wished I had a tech savvy friend who was also a WordPress user. I manage okay with this blog, but I by no means fully understand all the settings. Sometimes you just need one on one.

I left a comment while logged out and a fake name – should be in moderation – not sure what to say – maybe others will have a suggestion

Will Blog site accept a Discussion Forum such as phpBB?? or do I need a webhosting service?

Please be polite and follow forum etiquettte. Hijacking a thread with an unrelated topic such as you have posted, makes it difficult for others to search and find help in these forums: for example, someone in future will be looking for the forum topic:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/non-wordpress-users-comments
or even searching for an answer to a question similar to yours…

Please start your own thread with some important details so we can help: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1
You failed to provide a link to your site so we have no way of knowing if you are asking about a WordPress.COM or a wp.ORG site, which makes a difference:
    http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

But to answer, no, you cannot add a forum to a WordPress.COM free-hosted blog. You can link to an outside forum (do a search online for such things). If you have a wp.ORG site, then there are probably plugins or embeds you can use.

Auxclass: I think I got your comment. I thought it was spam lol. Which might not be funny if you want to visit my blog and comment on it again. Oops. Thanks for the assist, regardless.

I also found a few settings which may have impacted me. Some seemed to be fairly straightforward. One was in regard to allowing commenting on posts older than (what I assume is the default) 14 days. I unchecked that. I wasn’t sure how to play the ‘allow only users who have registered and signed in to comment’ setting, which I had set to ‘on’, so I unchecked it. I’ll see how that goes. I did query my bud, but I guess it’s late and he packed it in. But I’m guessing that he tried commenting to old posts while I had that 14 day limit set to on.

I won’t trouble folks further with this, unless something screwy happens. What a great community we have here. Thanks all. Later…
