Can not delete image files

  I am trying to delete image files from wordpress but its not letting me, its pretending that they are deleted but they are still there, when I delete and image from my media library it pretends it deleted by not showing it in my library but its still there hidden away, I’ve tried to upload another image with the exact same file name and it changes the file name once uploaded by adding an extra number on the end which proves that the original file is still there, I don’t want this if I upload an image I want to have the ability to permanently delete it, can you please tell me how I can do this.

  Forgot to mention the reason I want to be able to change or delete it is because I have some images hosted on a site that I want removed … Its using the link direct to my image so I want the ability to change remove or delete what I have uploaded.

  Hi there, images deleted from the Media Library are still stored in WordPress.com’s caches, so it’s not possible to overwrite them using the same filename.

  If you have a couple of images you’d like me to manually permanently delete from our server cache, please let me know the full path to the images and I’ll be glad to take care of it for you.
