Can one post vs whole blog be marked "mature content"?

I have an image I would like to display in ONE blog post that would meet WordPress Guidelines for mature content. This is probably the only time I would include what might be considered mature content, and I don’t want to have my whole blog classified that way. Is there any way to do this? If so, how?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Technically that is a question for the Terms of Service team to rule on. None of us has an idea of what you are proposing to post. The ToS folks can look at the image in your media library if you upload it. Don’t link it to any specific post. I’ve modlooked this topic so subscribe and you will be notified when there is a response.

IMO I’d modify the image to meet “safe for work” or “pg-13” guidelines unless there is some very justifiable reason for a pornographic image. But without actually seeing what you propose there is no way to judge if it meets some other standard. Is it art? literature? just mildly offensive, and offensive to whom?

Just subscribe to this topic and be patient. Note that this is a holiday weekend in the U.S. so you may not get a response right away.

It’s a blurred image that would otherwise be offensive. How does one contact the ToS team? I’m only learning to negotiate the menus, and this is my first query to the forum … took some digging to figure out how to do it. Thank you!

PS — not sure how much blurring would be necessary to meet guidelines? One can deduce what is being blurred. But the blurring obscures it.

    Hi there!

We can not mark only a single post as mature rather than an entire site. This is because we do not display an age gate or warning on mature sites.

A blog that is marked as Mature is excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service. This means:

    • It is not eligible to be featured in Freshly Pressed
    • It will not appear in the Reader or other tag listings
    • It will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs
    • The blog’s users cannot use that URL as a link in their WordPress.com Forums profile

You can read more about the Mature Content flag here:

    Mature Content

Please let me know if you have any other questions about our content policies!

    @shawnajroberts
I think the OP’s question was also about whether that one image is “mature” and if it was blurred or pixilated or masked then would it still be “mature.”

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, thank you. The questions, in order would be:

    1) Would a picture that might over-wise be “mature,” still be considered “mature” if it is blurred?

    2) If yes to #1, can a single post be marked “mature” without labeling the entire blog as “mature”?

I understand the answer to #2 is no — a single post cannot be labeled mature, only the entire blog. So #1 remains to be answered.

I’m not staff, just a volunteer who’s been here eight years but here are my answers:

    1) a single picture cannot be denoted “Mature” any more than a single post can. If you want a specific ruling, upload the image to your media library, don’t put it in a post, and ask staff to take a look at it.

    2) No. You can password-protect it or you can take the chance one image won’t get your whole blog Matured. It almost certainly won’t, unless there’s a penis in it.

    Hi dogdharma,

Sorry I missed your other question. If the blurred image still fits the description of anything on http://en.support.wordpress.com/mature-content/ then we would mark the blog as mature.

I’ll send you an email where you can attach the image in question and I can have the Terms of Service team take a look, if you’d like.
