Can one rename a WordPress domain that is mapped to one's own domain?

I initially created a test domain on WordPress, test4chart.wordpress.com . I then upgraded to Premium and mapped this to ch-art.org. So far, so good. However, I then noticed that all media uploaded to the site was linked to test4chart, an address I had really only intended to be used for test purposes. I would prefer if this domain did not appear in the path to uploaded media for ch-art.org.

Is it possible to either rename test4chart.wordpress.com after the fact, or else, remove the mapping, create a new free site with a different name, and then re-map it to ch-art.org? Would doing so break any existing, internal links on the site? Thank you.

  • Your media etc will appear at test4chart.wordpress.com address however once you map your blog (test4chart.wordpress.com) to ch-art.org, the links will auto update to your domain name, ch-art.org.

You don’t have to do anything. To test this, upload and publish a photo. When you upload the link for the photo will be something like https://test4chart.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/my-photo.jpg

However when you publish, the photo will be available at ch-art.org address.
