Can post summaries show thumbnails of pictures?
-
Hi, I’m back with yet another question. Please forgive a noob…
In my categories, my posts don’t show up as a whole, but only a few sentences (as you can see here: https://cookingblondes.wordpress.com/category/recente-berichten/ ), which is fine. But ideally, I would like there to be a picture as well. And even more ideally, the thumbnail of a picture. I can’t seem to find where to ajust this.
It should also be possible to have it show the posts in full length as well, but I haven’t found the place to ajust this either. The solution is probably going to be really easy… I just know it…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s a darn good idea. I wish themes did that, but NONE of them do. If I were you I’d suggest it to staff via the Dashboard Help button.

Oh wait: I believe if you copy the image code and put it in “Excerpt” which is under the Write Post box the image will show in the summary, but not as a thumbnail.
As for toggling between FULL posts and excerpts in summary/category pages, that’s entirely theme dependent.

Thank you very much! I’ve worked with Joomla before and with that you can download individual modules and put them anywhere you want. The stream of new modules is endless because users who know code create them to fit their own needs and then share them. Ofcourse the power of WordPress is its simplicity. But it would be nice to have an easy, userfriendly system like that.
Will try your suggestions in the morning. Sleep first…

Re: Full posts or not in category or archive pagesIn the majority of themes, posts in category or monthly archive pages show up just as they do in the main posts page. But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/

The excerpt function referred to by raincoaster is not active in all themes. Here is a list of themes where it works:
-
Another note about custom excerpts:
In Twenty Ten, if you want thumbnails to display as thumbnails, then you must remove “size-medium” (or size-full) from the excerpt code. Or, be sure “size-thumbnail” is there. It’s a bug, I think, because not all excerpt-enabled themes require that. In zbench, unsleepable, and digg3 for example, it is not necessary to remove those tags. -
Haha I have no idea what you’re talking about :p code???
I’m using twenty ten indeed. I’ll start trying all of your suggestions (as far as I understand them) right after dinner.
Thank you all! WordPress support forum is awesome :D

Oh, you must paste html code into the excerpt box in order for the thumbnails to show.
You can use the visual editor to craft your custom excerpts, then switch to the html editor. Cut/copy your customized synopsis, then paste it into the excerpt box.
I was saying that with twenty ten, you need to use thumbnail sized pictures for them to show as thumbnails.
Sorry that I confused you with the code info. Before I knew anything about code, I just used the visual editor, so when I switch my test blog with those old posts to twenty ten, wp has inserted the sizes in the class tag. Which need to be removed. Sorry again, but probably you will just be inserting thumbnails into your custom excerpts so it won’t be a problem for you.
