Can redirects be created for resources under [site].files.wordpress.com?
-
Hi, I’m new to wordpress and I don’t quite get how redirects work within the platform.
My site is a free hosted site.
I need to know if resources updated through the admin panel, being stored within mysite.files.wordpress.com can be redirected using any rule, coding or plugin perhaps?
Thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @seac0w,
In general, you would need a Business plan to use a redirect plugin or custom code.
Could you please clarify what you’re looking to redirect?

Hi metabreakr,
Thanks for your help. I’m looking to redirect a resource that is no longer valid to another that is the current logo, this within the same wordpress site. This resource was used several times and it is too much hassle to replace the urls one by one, so I wanted to have it redirect to the new resource currently in use.
The logo in question is under the .files.wordpress.com domain, as well as the new one, so my question is if is there a is a way to do this replacement without going the “manual route” and if this .files.wordpress.com domain can be redirected to perform the replacement.
This would save me a good amount of time and tedious work! I hope my details are clear enough. Thanks in advanced

Without upgrading to a Business subscription (where you could use a “find and replace” plugin to update the links to the media file), you’ll need to find and replace the media file URLs everywhere they’re being used and update the links manually.
Hope that clarifies things.

Nope, it clarifies things but not my question.
So, a plugin should be able to redirect the media file to a new one, yes? I ask because files.wordpress.com seems to be a separate domain, is that an issue? Should a plugin be able to redirect regardless of this?

You can use a plugin such as Better Search Replace to search for the old domain that is being referenced, replacing it with your new domain. Since your media library references your primary domain, this should resolve the issue without having to redirect anything to
files.wordpress.com.
