Can site owner/editor see open rates from blog subscribers?

Hi, I am wondering if it is possible as the owner/editor of a WordPress blog to see the open rates for blog subscribers who are signed up for email notices for each new post? Also, I have noticed that WordPress now sends the entire blog post in their email – so does a view through the email count towards the number of views recorded on my Site Stats? Or how are those recorded?

  • No, we currently do track all visits to the site, including from subscription emails, but we do not categorize them as such separately.

So if someone reads the post in their email but does not open the post on the website, is that reading in the email still counted towards the numbers that are tracked?

  • Great question! If someone reads the post within their email but never visits your site to read the post, they are never counted in your site stats.

To give you an idea of how it could be possible…

With a Business plan you could use a 3rd party email campaign/newsletter plugin to create and track information like open rates, etc. A plugin that comes to mind is Mailchimp For WordPress: https://wordpress.com/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/ – and there are likely others
