Hey I have a similar question.
I just started a blog – haven’t even posted yet! But I’m setting everything up and would like to add a few PAGES.
The first one, I want is About Me. I have created the page, wrote in the description, and listed it as public. It says it has been published but there is absolutely no link on the main blog. I can “view” it – but it just opens up in a new page.
What am I doing wrong?

If you want your post to go to a separate page, create a “Category” and assign your post to that category then it will automatically be sent to that page. You can access it through the Category link on your sidebar. -
You can’t assign a category to a page, Category can be assigned only to post.

@unmallya: Legacyofgrace’s reply is correct – she’s referring to categorizing posts, not pages.
@hahalexy: You need to go to Appearance>Widgets and activate the Categories widget for your sidebar. If you really want your categories as header tabs, you can get their URLs and use them as explained in this post:
