Can someone explain sticky posts to me?

I was curious how to utilize sticky posts in a post? What exactly are they? (sorry for the ignorance of the question)

Hello there!
Sticky posts are basically posts that will stick to the top of your list of posts. Normally, older posts will rotate off of the main list and in to the archives of your blog. If you want an older, but relevant post to always be visible and not automatically be archived, you can make it sticky and it will stay near the front of your list of blog posts regardless of when it was published.
