Can someone help me clear up some confusion I have about my domain?

  • Unknown's avatar

My WP blog dress is http://tobiaslopezphotography.wordpress.com. I own a domain name already, tobiaslopezphotography.com, which is my main website, and I host with BluDomain. I want tobiaslopezphotography.com/blog to be my URL link for my blog address with WP. I have WP installed on my main host servers, in which I installed using Softaculous. This version of WP is basic and I can’t customize my themes. I am in a 14 day free trial for the Premium $99/year subscription, directly at wordpress.com. I read on the forums about mapping sub domains, but I know I can’t map a sub directory, tobiaslopezphotography.com/blog. It seems my option would be to register a new domain , such as, blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com, and it is available through WP, but I already registered tobiaslopezphotography.com, when I first registered with WP. I’m confused with all of this and basically, I want to run a blog as tobiaslopezphotography.com/blog using wordpress. What is my best option to get this done?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

It seems my option would be to register a new domain , such as, blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com, and it is available through WP, but I already registered tobiaslopezphotography.com, when I first registered with WP. I’m confused with all of this and basically, I want to run a blog as tobiaslopezphotography.com/blog using wordpress. What is my best option to get this done?

So you wouldn’t need to actually register a new domain. All you would have to do is add a subdomain:

    Map a Subdomain

You should just have to add a CNAME record. Let me know when you set that up and I can swap out your domain mapping for the subdomain.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

    Hi Gracie,

I create my sub domain directly through my host, BLuDomain, correct?

    Gracie,

Thank you for your help, BTW!

    The support guide states:

Add a CNAME record through the registrar where you purchased your domain or through your DNS provider.

After looking into your domain, I found it was: wildwestdomains.com as seen here:

    Hi Grace,

My registrar has added my CNAME record and I, then, went to map my subdomain, blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com and realized WP charges $13/year to map a subdomain. What would be the difference if I just created a new domain, directly through WP, blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com, since I get 1 free domain with the $99/year subscription, as oppose to mapping my subdomain, for $13/year?

Also, I apologize for calling you Gracie, and not Grace. My mistake; I’m very sorry!

    Thank you, Tobias

    Hi Tobias:

What would be the difference if I just created a new domain, directly through WP, blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com, since I get 1 free domain with the $99/year subscription, as oppose to mapping my subdomain, for $13/year?

There wouldn’t actually be a difference. The domain: blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com would actually be a subdomain, not registering a new domain. Currently, the mapping of tobiaslopezphotography.com was used as the free domain mapping with Premium. Would you like to switch that out for: blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com? Or you can leave that and purchase another domain mapping for the subdomain: blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

    Hi Grace,

Yes, I would like to swap that out so that my free domain mapping would be blog.tobiaslopezphotography.com.

    Thank you,
    Tobias
