Can someone help me understand pros/con on buying the bundle w/ domain?

I would like to know more information about buying the bundle with the domain name. I am interested in buying a domain name, but I’m not sure if buying the bundle will pay off for me or not. I am not totally new to the world of blogging, but I am new to having my own website, and I don’t know how fast I will be moving at first. I’m not sure if buying the bundle will pay off for me at this moment, or should I buy the domain with the privacy protection and look into the bundle at a later time? Also, the bundle says no ads. Does that mean if I don’t get the bundle there will be ads on my site that I didn’t put there? How exactly does that work? Also, with the bundle it says custom designs. What are my limits designing my site if I don’t buy the bundle compared to if I do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi janahcampbell,

It really comes down to what you want to do with your site.
If you wanted to just start with the Domain Name and then add other features as you need them than you can certainly go that way.

If you don’t purchase at least the No Ads upgrade, or the Premium Upgrade, than WordPress can put ads on your site to help keep the service free. It is another way for them to make money while not having to charge people who don’t want to, or can’t pay. That said from what I’ve seen the ads are typically not invasive and at the bottom of pages/posts.

With the Custom Design add on, part of the Premium Upgrade, you have access to change the look and feel of which ever theme you choose to use. You can do this by changing fonts, colors, and adding your own custom CSS. See more here http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

If you don’t have the custom design you are basically left with few customization options which can vary by theme. So if you want to customize how your site looks past just choosing the theme, then having this would be a good idea.

The great thing is you can preview the custom design to see what you can do before you purchase it. So you can play with the features and see what it will do to your site. You just won’t be able to save the changes.

    I hope that helps.

I advise people to tinker with the blog for at least a month before buying upgrades. The only upgrade I recommend for everyone is the Custom Domain and Mapping one. You’ll use that no matter what happens to the blog, and the earlier you get it, the better off you will be.
