For some reason there seems to be a problem with your name server setting, check with your Registrar and see if there is a problem of some sort. A whois shows the name servers set correctly, but a whats my DNS & domain Helper show problems with name servers settings
Also double check your domain mapping to make sure it has not expired. Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades
I have also flagged this for staff attention, but they are backed up at this point with help requests

I have got hold of tucow and they have updated the DNS etc and removed the lock. However I don’t understand why the
localassistance.wordpress.com
is not working?
the whois, registrar etc should only affect “localassistance.info”.
How can be original blog link be closed? Please resolve this ASAP.

Hi Stella,
You are almost there! You just need to complete the last step of domain mapping upgrade and set the new domain as the primary domain on your account. To do that, go to this page:
https://localassistance.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Select your custom domain as the primary domain, then save the changes. Then, you should be all set!
Please let me know if you have any further questions!

It has caused a lot of inconvenience for our office and it was down for a couple of weeks. I would like to know exactly what went wrong. Thank you.

Hi Stella,
Like I said, all you need to do is go to this page and change the option to “localassistance.info”:
https://localassistance.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Then save your changes and everything should work fine.
Nothing went wrong, it’s just that, in addition to purchasing the domain, your blog needs to be configured to load at your custom domain instead of the .wordpress.com address.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

That’s not true. The blog had been configured to load at the custom domain that we purchased. But since it was down for a couple of weeks, I had to switch the configuration to the .wordpress.com address. I would still like to know what went wrong so I can determine what service I should keep. Thank you.

I’m sorry for misunderstanding your question. Like I said, everything is working now so it’s hard to say what was wrong. What exactly was happening when it was down?
If you were having trouble with your DNS settings (which it sounds like you resolved with Tucows), the blog would not have worked if it was still set to use the custom domain, so it makes sense that you had to switch it back.
Basically, that setting controls where your WordPress site “expects” to be loaded, so if you have it set and the domain doesn’t have the right settings, things won’t work properly, even though the problem is, as you said, really on the DNS side.
Since you didn’t purchase your domain through us, I don’t know what happened with your DNS settings. What did Tucows tell you?
