Can text colour be changed if I use an existing template?

    Hi Everyone,

I’m quite new to WordPress having moved a personal blog from Blogger to WordPress after realising I wanted a bit more security with some of my posts. I did search for this question before posting and the only other person who asked this exact same question had one follow up response asking for the URL of their blog, but nothing further. Anything else isn’t quite what I want to know.

I have used ChaoticSoul as my template, because I like its simplicity, but I don’t really care for the yellow hue of the post titles and sidebar titles. I was wondering if there is any way to change this colour to something else. I have a bit of CSS knowledge only because I was able to tinker with things on Blogger and I could figure out what was what there based on my HTML knowledge.

I would appreciate any help offered.

Hi and welcome to wordpress.com. You can change the text color with the CSS upgrade. Alternatively, you can do it manually, post by post, via the extended/advanced toolbar.

Thanks for the welcome ella. I had a forehead slaping moment when I clicked on the Kitchen Sink. LOL I noticed it in passing when I first signed up, but never clicked on it.

I did purchase the upgrade for CSS, but when I click to edit it, none of the current CSS coding shows up, rather the text generated by WordPress telling you that you can make changes there. I tried viewing the source code from my blog and pasting it into the CSS box, but then I can’t find where I need to make the changes for the colours. It looks totally different to what I’m used to.

    Thanks again, ella.

When you are in the CSS editing screen, there is a link at the bottom for viewing existing CSS. Click on that and it will bring up the entire CSS code for your blog. You don’t edit there – you edit in the window.

Unfortunately, there is no official support for CSS and only a few people in the forums are well versed in it, which is why purchasing it before trying it out is not recommended. The source code for your blog is not the same as CSS. Take a look at the CSS resources at the top of the CSS forum.

Also, if you’re going to work with the CSS, it’s a good idea to use Firefox and install the Firebug and Web Developer’s Toolbar plugins. They should help you work out which codes you need to alter.

I figured it all out when vivian said I should click on the link for existing CSS. Then everything fell into place. And BOY is CSS sooooo much easier and simplistic compared to XML.

Thanks for all your help. :)
