Can the basic two-column layout be altered?

The basic WordPress layout appears to be two columns, with previous posts being listed on the right hand side of the page. Is there any way to alter the width of the columns?

The answer is yes but do note you cannot make that change to any theme without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.
