Can two instances of WordPress running on the same server?
I am planning to have both the development site and the QA sit running on the same server but with different paths. Each will have its own WordPress instance. The reason is each site will be worked on by a different team. There is a security need for separating them into different WordPress instances. Do you see any problem of running two separate WordPress instances on the same server and same domain name but different paths?
Thanks.

Hi there,
You are referring to your site at https://web-moc.com/ or is this a question related to another site on your account.
To clarify you wish to be able to set up a staging site that is connected to the live site, so you can make changes in private and “push” them to the production site? Or did you have something else in mind by having multiple copies of the same site? Thanks for the additional info!

My question is not related to https://web-moc.com/
I am planning to have three different versions of the same site, one for development, another for QA, and the last one for production. I will have the production site on a separate server. But the development site and QA site are on the same server (for saving costs). I will use the path for separating the two sites (development and QA). Since there are separate contractors working on the two sites. I am planning to totally separate the two sites so that I will have a separate instance of WordPress running on each site. Is this feasible? Is this the proper way of separating two sites? Please advise.
Thanks.

Hey there,
Many thanks for that additional information.
I am planning to have three different versions of the same site, one for development, another for QA, and the last one for production. I will have the production site on a separate server.
Got it – so with WordPress.com, you’d need to have 3 installations, each with their own business plan, and each with their own domain – which we can provide.
That said, you may benefit from a different set up whereby there’s a staging facility in place, which could be more an efficient set up.
Pressable for example, hosts self-hosted WordPress, and provides free staging sites here: https://pressable.com/features/staging-environments/ which could be good for the development site you have in mind.
I am planning to totally separate the two sites so that I will have a separate instance of WordPress running on each site. Is this feasible?
From the get go, you’d need to have three instances of WordPress running for each site.
You mentioning running a QA site – out of curiosity, what tests or implementations do you intend to have in place? The reason why I ask is because in experience, you tend to have two sites if you’re working like this (staging and live), as with an additional site, you tend to be one step away from quality assurance, because the domain names change more frequently.
I hope this helps.
