Can upgrade?

  Apparently I’m using WordPress.org and hosting my site through Siteground. I’m totally frustrated with trying to follow tutorials that end up using features I don’t have. Can I switch over and buy a plan through WP.com without it interfering with the site I’m still developing at Siteground using WP.org?

  Hello there,

  Yes – that’s totally possible.

  The minimum plan you would require would be the business plan because of the use of plugins/themes on the site.

  Good to know, thank you! I thought I had downloaded and began an account directly from WP.com, so was surprised when everyone was telling me it was through WP.org. So, my confusion is now with the term “self hosted.” If I upgrade to the business plan with WP.com, it’s still going to be hosted at Siteground, not at WP. And this will be a seamless transition?

  No, it won’t be hosted by SiteGround anymore. It will be hosted by us (WordPress.com).
