Can we add CANONICAL as an HTML attribute?

Are you referring specifically to reblogs?

No, I mean when I put it in the text editor in a regular post, it gets stripped out. It would be nice if it were not.

Thanks for clarifying. The link HTML tag is stripped out (as you know). I don’t think the ability to add the tag within the body of the page would offer much benefit as we automatically add it to the head of the document, which is the recommended method by Google:

From what I’ve read, it seems like including the canonical tag in the body is disregarded by Google anyway. That’s mentioned under #5 here:
