Can we get an opt out button so our content can't be reblogged?

As a writer posting original content, and having two copyright notices posted on my wordpress.com blog, I am very annoyed by the reblog button. It is not flattering to me, especially if I have to go hunting them down and asking the rebloggers to take them down because it is being published elsewhere. Is there a way to make this an option that each blog owner can choose to opt out of? I am not happy at all with this aspect of wordpress.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Not a chance – this was flogged to death in the forum when the Reblog feature was added and no disable button etc.

Note – that anyone can still just copy and paste your work in full and skip the link back – at least the Reblog has a link back to the original Post and is limited to 55 words or so

The only way to prevent reblogging http://en.support.wordpress.com/reblogs/ is to make your blog visibility private > Settings > Reading
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Some bloggers post notices in a text widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/ in their sidebar stating they do not want their posts to be reblogged. That has zero impact on anyone who wishes to reblog the posts anyway but If you wish to, then you can do that.

Arguably reblogging makes it (very slightly) less likely that someone will reblog your entire post.

Also if you can write something that grabs the reader’s attention in the first few sentences it could actually drive traffic to your blog.

That’s true and what’s being reblogged is 55 words. So what I do is insert the more tag into each post http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ to create front page excerpts only. I also set my RSS feed > Settings > Reading to display “summary” rather than full text.

I do as @TT does above – Summery and the More Tag – then I work very hard at making the first 55 – 60 words a good lead to my Post since some other blogs put my feed in their sidebar and a local online marine news magazine puts me on the front page of their site when I write a good article – so I want a good title and lead / intro to get people to click on the link and visit my site

I make sure I have an effective post title that clearly states what the post is about with keywords as close as possible to the beginning of it. Then I create a first paragraph “hook” like auxclass describes. I’m also cautious about Tags as search spider expect to find the keyword in any Tag in the body text.

My whole posts are there if someone chooses to click on it to open it up, much like any other post where they only show the first 55 words. Most people are pretty nice about taking it down on request, its just a frustrating. Perhaps I need to use a different platform, one that doesn’t reblog, and also shuts down the right-click copy and highlight-copy to protect my work.

Right click protect is a false security – if a person can read your blog they can copy it – disable right click just keeps honest people honest – not that hard to get around right click disable

If they take the whole Post – file a DMCA take down notice with their host – take the whole Post and that is theft
