Can we get existing usernames that have never been used?
-
So many individuals either create an account and never get on or change their username but save the other so no one else can use it. I was wondering, is it possible to obtain an existing username on WordPress that has never been used? For example, there’s this one username that I would love to have, but it’s apparently taken. It was created in 2007 but has never been used! No posts made but an ‘example post.’ It’s empty. Is it possible for me to contact WordPress to get it? It’s such a waste of a good name; it will be put to use if I am able to receive it.

Hi there, WordPressdotcom sites never expire. A site can remain inactive indefinitely regardless of when the last post was made.
If there is an open comment form or contact form, you can try leaving a comment there. If the site owner replies and agrees to transfer the site ownership to you, they can follow this guide to do so https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
If they do not reply to your query, there is nothing further that can be done. WordPressdotcom will not turn over an existing site to another user.
