If not Google Adsense, are there any other types of ads that can be placed on a WordPress blog?
-
No. Please read the policy and note that if you want a monetized blog then you can hire a web host and have him download free-standing software from http://wordpress.org
Adsense and other Ads
http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/
Adsense, Yahoo, Chitika and other ads are not permitted to be added by users. Adverts that may be inserted when using an external blogging program will be blocked.
Sponsored / paid posts including PayPerPost and ReviewMe are not permitted.
Sponsored / paid links are not permitted.
Text ads are not permitted.
A discreet link to your business in the sidebar or an About page is permitted.
One discreet link to Amazon per blog is okay, but if the primary purpose of the blog is to drive traffic to affiliate programs that’s not allowed. If you’re not sure, contact support.
Clicktrackers and any promotion of the “I made a million on the internet and so can you” type of advertising are expressly forbidden.
We have a very low tolerance for blogs created purely for search engine optimization or commercial purposes, machine-generated blogs, and will continue to nuke them, so if that’s what you’re interested in WordPress.com is not for you.You may see some advertising on the domain.
1. VIP blogs are able to run ads. http://wordpress.com/vip-hosting/
2. We also run some ads sometimes and the reasons for that are explained here http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/09/06/on-ads/Terms of Service
Also Section 2, 5th bullet of the ToS that you agreed to to get a blog here makes it clear that you cannot use a wordpress.com blog to drive traffic to third party sites or for SEO boosting.“the Content is not spam, and does not contain unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites, or to further unlawful acts (such as phishing) or mislead recipients as to the source of the material (such as spoofing);”

@bitterexwives
If you are interested in having a monetized blog there is a sticky post at the head of the forum titled “Please read me first before posting” and it describes the differences bewteen wordpress.com and wordpress.org. Also note that you can export the contents of your wordpress.com blog out and import them into a template from wordpress.org

timethief,
I am interested in a monetized blog, but I don’t have the time commitment to start another blog. When I get to that point, I will check out wordpress.org. Thanks again!

@greatproductreviews
I believe we have exhausted this subject.
Will you please mark this thread as “resolved”? -
I am totally unhappy with this policy. I have a suggestion. Like Google, wordpress also can start their own ad program which will mutually help wordpress and its users to monetize their blog. Of what purpose does the traffic serves if it is not monetized?
(I know I shouldn’t be posting the suggestion for wordpress in this forum. But before I suggest this feature to wordpress I want to know how many wordpress users are unhappy with this policy, like me)
-
You won’t find out by posting to resolved threads. If you do a search, you’ll find many other threads on this subject. Please don’t start yet another. If you want to, contact those bloggers via their blogs, or put out a call to action on your own.
