Can Woo Commerce themes be used on WP.Com (vs .org or ISP)?
-
I am testing a Woo Commerce premium theme on my WP.com site right now, and some things are working. It would be absolutely great if it was an easy seamless transition (to dream and die for), but from what I’ve read on both WP and Woo support forums is that themes using plugins, etc. won’t work on wp.com, that I need to have a self-hosted wp.org site. Does “self-hosting” mean I need my own personal server?
The second option is that I install the Woo Commerce template to my ISP that does support WordPress. However, I had to uninstall my WordPress blog from my ISP (I installed it through them), because none of the scripted items worked, such as menus. I went to wordpress, downloaded and reinstalled the most up-to-date versions of those same themes and still, the menus, categories, etc. did not work. (I’m using a Mac Book Pro OS 10.6.8, 2.66 GHz i7). Those theme developers (not Woo) offered no forum support (or support of any kind) for their themes. My ISP does not offer support for wordpress products (though they are touted as a wordpress ISP provider) so it was impossible to determine where the problem originated. In fact the list of themes the ISP offers is completely different from those offered by wordpress, and are not the latest versions.
I switched my blog to wp.com, bypassing the ISP middleman and everything works great. I want to use the premium themes, but dread the thought of shelling out lots of money, installing them through my ISP and then not having any of the functions work, and not knowing how to fix it.
It’s odd that I can test the woo commerce themes on my wp.com site but in the end won’t be able to use them there.
Any thoughts?

We do not provide support on this forum for any blogs other than those that are being free hosted by WordPress.com. Have you read the support documentation?
When you purchase a premium theme, it is available for the lifetime of that blog. If you would like to use the same theme across multiple blogs, you’ll have to purchase the theme for each blog. Note: Premium Themes are customized for WordPress.com usage only, and cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
Support
Along with the distinctive features and a gorgeous design, purchasing a premium theme for your WordPress.com site also gives you full access to dedicated support on the WordPress.com forums from the theme authors themselves, where you may also find customization tips for your theme. The exclusive Premium themes forum there will be accessible only to site owners who’ve purchased a theme. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/premium-themes -
This is a theme question.
I am new to wordpress and placed this question in this forum because I do have four new blogs hosted by wordpress.com (not this particular account) and thought my question was relevant. WordPress.org and wordpress.com is confusing to the newbies (general public).
I have been reading applicable documentation but wanted confirmation. I have gone through the 147 premium themes listed at wordpress.com One of the developers of those themes has more on their site, supposedly compatible with wordpress. The confusion is as follows: http://test.woothemes.com/spotteddogpress/
It looks like a wordpress site and it says .com, but the docs say that it will not work with wordpress.com, only a self-hosted wordpress.org site. Can you see the confusion?
I thought if it looks like wordpress.com it must be compatible. I’m just trying to get information before installing yet another wordpress theme that doesn’t work.
Is there a better support forum that can address the issue of compatibility?

Hi there,
If you scroll down to the footer of the theme on that site and locate the “Proudly powered by WordPress” link it directs to http://wordpress.org/ That is a wordpress.org install. It is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. The site is using a version of Twenty Eleven that is coded to run on WordPress.org software. -
My .com blogs on wordpress are hosted by wordpress.
The only themes you can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here > Appearance > Themes
There is a Themes Showcase you can explore themes and demo them. Themes » Premium Themes -
