Can Word Press Handle This Type of Page?

    Have you tried typing that into the search box on the support documentation page?
    Main page support documentation here > http://en.support.wordpress.com
    search string results http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=Flickr+slideshow

    Just use the search box. Put in “Flickr video” and away you go.

    If that doesn’t work, just get a Vodpod account, post it to your Vodpod account, and use the Post to WordPress button that they offer. That works for virtually any form of video.

    Thank you 1tess and I think I understand in general how to install third-party code on WordPress now. I honestly thought I would never understand it but that’s just my cynical nature. I think the idea is that the third-party code is reprocessed into a form that Word Press will accept using gigya. If it is something rather popular than you can find the right gigya code and you can implement it. And no it is most likely not difficult to find the right “gigya assistance.”

    But on the downside it seems clear that JavaScript is more or less out of the question. One very great thing I like to do with JavaScript is provide RSS feed links with it. For example, I can using JavaScript to deploy a widget that shows the latest ten news stories at “The Denver Post”. If someone ever clicks on one of the links (and admittedly I am often the only one who does for days at a time) the host site gets the visit, so it would be very rare for the host site (The Denver Post in my example) to object to this type of thing.

    Thanks also timethief, that was dumb of me not to do the search, wasn’t it? It has been a long, quite stressful day for yours truly.

    Thanks sincerely to everyone for the information I received; I really needed it because I am sort of afraid of WordPress since, quite apart from any limitations there might be, it is most definitely true that WordPress is quite different from Blogger in ways I am sensitive to. I guess it may simply be that those who have developed Blogger in recent years are sort of like my “soul mates”. The Blogger developers and myself seem to think in similar ways, whereas WordPress seems to be very different. It’s like a foreign country so to speak, a very foreign country.

    Of course, I have done so much with Blogger that actually everything seems very foreign other than Blogger!

    If anyone has any other responses to any of my questions I will see them and thank you for them; I will be monitoring this topic for at least a week.

    @tremaine1

    You are welcome. The gigya code can be confusing, but it is do-able. (Well, except for this one widget I can’t figure out—LOL, it’s just me i’m sure)

    JavaScript is not “more or less out of the question.” It is no-go.

    If you make a list of what you want to do, one by one, then consider plus and minus for each issue comparing wp with some other/many platforms. That will concentrate your mind.

    These forums work better with specific questions. If you can chrystalize your thoughts, you can start threads about each specific issue/question. You are more likely to get help from volunteers here.

    Best to you.

    If all you want is to post links to RSS feeds, just use the prefab RSS widget.

    Instead of focusing on the platforms, the software, the apps, the plugins, the codes, the whatevers, just tell us exactly what you want to accomplish. We could have answered this ages ago.
