Can wordpress make links open in a new page as default?
I check the box for links in a new page but somehow in the editing process the box gets unchecked. I now have to revisit 300 posts to verify if the box is checked for all the links. Not fun!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

HI there,
Can wordpress make links open in a new page as default?
Unfortunately this would not be possible. It is not usually the default to open links in a new tab/window, so we wouldn’t be able to change this for all users on WordPress.com.
I haven’t heard of any users stating that the box gets automatically unchecked during the editing process, so thank you for the report. I’ll keep an eye out for this and let you know if I hear anything more.
Cheers!

I understand that it isn’t usually the default but I do wonder why it isn’t. Doesn’t everyone want to keep readers on a site when they click on links rather than have them just move on mid article?
Thanks for keeping an eye out and for responding so quickly.
Best, Holly -
It’s a bit surprising, but I found that many people actually think the opposite after a bit of research. I honestly don’t feel too strongly one way or the other, but there are many different thoughts on this and I’d say it’s pretty much split. One of the main against this is that opening up in a new tab/window isn’t user friendly and breaks up the reading process that the writer has set for the reader. However, it of course depends on your site and how it’s set up.
All opinions aside, our default is set to open up in the same window. If we start getting a majority of our users who prefer the other way, then we will definitely have our developers look into this as this change would affect everyone.
Cheers!
