can wordpress redirect a lost password link to a different email
-
Hey, i have had to log into my shared blog to ask this. On the face of it seems that im never gonna be able to log into my other account because i lost my password for both email which i set up on the day on a whim and the blog. I sent an email to support but have had no reply as of yet last week. I am aware doing this might be a problem but that url is an important one and would be better if i could use that one http://www.westlondonalarm.wordpress.com. Is there any chance wordpress would be able to send a password recovery email to a different email address or am i doomed to be accused of being not the owner of that blog due to being forgetful……..help please guys.

Please read this entry:
f you send us a note requesting help with accessing your account/blog, we will require an e-mail from the address registered with the account. Otherwise, we cannot help. http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/

PS – once a domain name is deleted on WordPress.COM the URL is gone forever, so deleting the account would not help you either.

yeah but i managed to get locked out of that email by being a completely forgetful retard!!! what do you mean the url is gone forever you mean you cannot restart one with the same name then? i take it. so basically there’is no chance of me ever getting into this account again???

Unless you can somehow remember how to access the email you registered with or the password for the site, yep, gone. It will sit there lonely and unloved! No one will be able to use that particular wordpress blog name again.
But you can start a new blog — and make a note of all your login details, including which email you registered with and what its password is — and register that one with a new name. Then if you want to have a blog with your own domain name (i.e., yourpreferredname.com rather than yourname.wordpress.com), you can register a domain with them for a low fee ($17 U.S., I believe) and have it mapped to your custom domain name.

P.S. Doing things on a whim can be fun, and I’m into whimsical myself, but whimsy tends also to be ephemeral. So being a bit organized and a little more detail-oriented can be to your advantage. :-) Wishing you luck on your next adventure in blogging!

Most email systems have some sort of lost password recovery process – have you tried to work back from that direction?
Have you tried the lost password feature on the blog in question?

im locked out man no more chances with hotmail? and yes it’s a shame that it will be left all alone. i did email support about this too, judging by this i am expecting a similar story. i mean surely wordpress could see this post and use some degree of discretion etc and let me back in!!!!!! but i am aware that it’s not that easy. am i allowed infinite tries with remembering the password on wordpress?
-
I don’t know about the number of tries for a password here.
The problem WordPress.COM has is how do they know it is you and not maybe me trying to hijack your new blog.
-
I know I wouldn’t be happy if someone claiming to be me talked wordpress into giving them access to my blog, and I doubt you would be happy if they did that when you have a blog up and running, either.
If you registered a backup email when you set up your hotmail account (and I don’t use hotmail, so I don’t know whether they have that feature or not), you could get your hotmail account password recovered through your backup email.
I think that, if you’re really set on continuing to try to get access to that blog, your best bet is to try to regain access to your hotmail account. I know that gmail has multiple ways of regaining access to an account that a user is locked out of for one reason or another, and the same might be true of hotmail.

WordPress.com is extremely protective of user’s privacy. I have known exactly ONE instance in the six years I’ve been here where they gave someone access and it wasn’t the real person, and I very much doubt they’ll do it again.
Why don’t you just start a new blog, since even if you get the account back you won’t get a deleted blog/url back? You have literally nothing to lose.

yep im kinda resigned to it now. bye bye old domain and hello new one. oh well these things happen. thanks ladies and gents of wordpress for your advice.
