Can you attach files to more than one post or do you have to upload them again?

Can you attach files to more than one post? I would like to create a gallery of photos already uploaded and attached to other posts and place it on a new page (a page that is a collection of my best art for each year of my blog).
Or do I have to upload them all again? Ditto for a slide show? Can they be selected from existing attached files or need to be uploaded again?

It depends, a bit. If you’re planning to add the same gallery to a different page, you can use the shortcode:

Thank you evarlese. I appreciate your quick response. However, it didn’t quite answer my question. I’ll try to explain myself better:
I have thousands of photos attached to hundreds of posts. I want to create a new page named (for example) “Top 100 of 2011” and then select 100 photos from my media library (not from an existing gallery) and display them on the “Top 100” page as a gallery. I’d also like to top the page with a slideshow with maybe the top 10 pictures in it.
I don’t understand your answer about putting a slideshow on more than one page and how that relates to my question. I look forward to your further response! Thanks!

Thanks Macmanx. Geez, that’s a lot of extra storage space and time since they already all have captions on WP but not on my computer. I guess I can skip the captions and just let them be pictures. And they won’t be automatically linked to their original posts.
Do you think this is a feature that might be offered in the (near) future? If so I’ll wait.
