Can you back up the site

    Hello! I received guidance from the pordpress site and upgraded it to a business. However, when I try to back up to February 2023, I receive a message saying it is not possible. Can you back up the site to January 2023 instead?

    Hi there!

    I see that you upgraded to the WordPress.com Business plan recently. The backup and restore feature (Jetpack Backup) starts backing up your site content after you upgrade to the Business plan and activate hosting features (or install any plugin). It’s not possible to restore to a time that was before your site was on the Business plan.

    May I ask why you’d like to restore your site to January 2023? Perhaps we can suggest alternatives once we have a better understanding of why you’d like to restore to that date.

    I’m sorry, but it would not be possible to retrieve your backups. Allow me to explain the reasons behind this.

    Firstly, your website was on the WordPress.com Pro plan until April 15, 2023, when the plan expired. While the Pro plan included backups, including those from January 2023, once the plan expired, backups are only retained for 30-days unless a new plugin-enabled plan (such as the Business plan, as we no longer offer Pro) is purchased. After the 30-day period, all backups are removed from our system and cannot be recovered.

    Additionally, once the plan expired, your website would have reverted to its state before you installed any plugins, themes, or custom code. However, your posts, pages, and media files are still preserved.

    Subsequently, on May 13, 2023, you purchased a two-year WordPress.com Personal plan. Since this plan does not support plugins, it does not count as a “new plan purchase” for retaining backups.

    Lastly, the WordPress.com Business plan was purchased on June 26, 2023, which marks the new starting point for any backups that we will create and retain for restoration.

    Therefore, any backups prior to that date are no longer available, as they were purged from our system 30 days after the expiration of the Pro plan.
